PROJECT MOM & DAYS !
The Rotary Club of Brisbane International had facilitated 250 MOM packs from District 9630 and 150 pieces of “Days for Girls” packs.
The MOM pack contains hygiene packs for boys and girls respectively and DAYS for girls include sanitary packs.
On the 6th of April, 2021 Rotary Club of Labasa made arrangements to distribute the MOM and Day for Girls packs at Labasa college. The handover was wholeheartedly welcomed by the College Principal, Mrs Raj and the Hostel Matron, Ms Vasiti together with the hostel staff and students.
Vanualevu the 2nd largest island of Fiji was inundated by Cyclone Yasa in December 2020 and Cyclone Ana in January 2021. The island of Vanualevu was devastated and many schools in rural areas were destroyed. To make it worse, there was massive flooding during TC Ana which resulted in many people losing their personal belongings.
Labasa College is the Premium high school in Vanualevu. It has boarding facilities for the needy students from rural backgrounds and provides accommodation to a diverse distribution of students from rural and maritime areas around Vanualevu who cannot afford accommodation to attend Labasa College. The boarding facilities houses 79 girls and 49 boys at its hostel. These boys and girls are from Wainunu, Nabouwalu, in Bua, Udu in Cakaudrove, Kia island, Yaqaga Island, Mali Island, Yaroi in Savusavu and various villages in the Macuata district. These are the children were particularly affected by TC Yasa and TC Ana.
Due to major damages in rural schools, many students from rural schools are being facilitated at this college until there respective school buildings are repaired.
The principal at Labasa College, Mrs Raj along with donors facilitated uniforms, shoes and basic necessities for the students that were affected.
The Rotary Club of Labasa was overwhelmed with the chance to help these needy high school children. The MOM packs and the Day for Girls pack came at an hour of need and our Club is so proud to help and provide some comfort to these children who are in need.
Thank you Rotary club of Brisbane International, District 9630 & Rotary Club of Wynnum Manly for assisting us with MOM packs and the Days for Girls pack at an hour of need.
To those who wish to partner and fund with Rotary club of labasa shall freely contact us via details provided on our page.
