Days for Girls Periodical

September 16, 2019

Did you hear the news?! This month, we hit another major milestone -- reaching 1.5 million women and girls in 141 countries! Since a DfG Kit lasts (on average) 3 years, DfG supporters like you have given more than 186,666,725 days back to girls around the world.
Days where she now has dignity, health, and opportunity.

We are set to reach 5 million girls by 2024 (and if anyone knows me, they know that I hope to reach that number before 2024). But we also have other impactful projects in the works, like our refugee-focused project that’s launching in November.

Our call to make DfG Kits for refugees was met with overwhelming enthusiasm and participation! Thousands of you stepped forward so that we can deliver DfG Kits to Afghanistan, Lebanon, South Sudan, and Somalia. Learn more about the project below.

Thank you for making our mission of turning periods into pathways come to life.  What an inspiration you are to the world.

In gratitude,

Celeste Mergens, Founder & CEO

Notes from the Field

TAKE ACTION: JOIN US FOR PERIOD DAY RALLIES
All around the world, women and girls have been speaking out about menstrual equity. That’s why Days for Girls is excited to join the first ever U.S. National Period Day Rally on October 19, 2019. Peaceful rallies will take place in all 50 states in the United States to advocate against the #TamponTax.

With our vision to reach every girl. everywhere. period., this is a perfect opportunity to take action. Help us ensure that period products are freely accessible for all in schools, shelters, and prisons. And changing the tampon tax is key to this goal!

If you are based in the U.S., we'd love for you to join us. For more information, please email our Advocacy Coordinator helping with this rally, Lena Sharesky, at advocacycoordinator@daysforgirls.org or visit NationalPeriodDay.com!
UPDATE: Our Refugee Project
Watching women in Lebanon supply Syrian refugees with DfG Kits and education has been both rewarding and heartbreaking. Too often, women and girls leave empty handed because we didn’t have enough Kits to go around. That’s why we launched a refugee-focused campaign to reach those most in need.

Days for Girls supporters and dedicated volunteers around the world have stepped forward to help sew, fund, and send Kits to distribution centers and are then shipped to various locations. In just three months, more than 33,000 DfG Kits have been sewn and are ready to go!

We’re thrilled to partner with World Vision to help us with this project. With their extensive network, we will be able to reach beyond our work in Lebanon and expand to South Sudan, Afghanistan, and Somalia with the supplies and services they need most. This means that women and girls receive access to sustainable menstrual health products and vital health education, but will also have ongoing field support with someone they know to bring any questions or concerns.

SPREAD THE WORD! Enterprise Applications for 2020 are NOW OPEN!
We are looking for amazing local leaders who want to make a difference in their community and their futures! Days for Girls Enterprises have a huge impact around the world, and we have opened our application process to recruit locally-driven menstrual health leaders with an entrepreneurial spirit in low and middle income communities around the world. Those who are selected will go through extensive training to produce and sell Days for Girls Kits and provide women's health education.

The application process closes on October 28th, so spread the word!

Days for Girls - Mackay

Days for Girls - Mackay, consists of a team of dedicated volunteers who produce washable reusable sanitary packs for women in developing countries, where many have no means of managing their menstrual periods.

These kits allow young girls to attend school, and, women to go about their daily lives. The kits empower - and are a great stigma eraser - for women who would otherwise be isolated while menstruating.

Days for Girls' aim is to afford all women the dignity, health and opportunity they deserve.
